He has stoodby the Republican legislation upon the tariff and financial questions, and is aforcible writer upon these topics. Air. Allerton believes in political organiza-tion and contributes both time and money to aid in the organization and com-paign work of the Republican party. Air. Allerton was the Republican candi-date for Alayor at one time, and carried the north division of the city, butCarter H. Harrison, Sr., a most influential and enterprising Democrat, waselected. As before stated, Samuel Waters Allerton was married July 1, i860, toAliss Pamilla W. Thompson, at Peoria, Illinois. Airs. Allerton died Alarch 1,1881. On Alarch 15, 1882, Air. Allerton married Agnes C. Thompson, a sisterof his first wife. Air. and Airs. Allerton have an elegant home in Chicago, havea large circle of friends, and dispense an agreeable hospitality. 330
