He represented his Con-gressional District on the Republican State Central Committee from 1894 to53 and was a member of the Executive Committee, and was for two yearsChairman oi the Finance Committee. In 1896 Air. Copley was elected Presidentof the Illinois League of Republican Clubs at its Peoria Convention. He heldthis position for two years and declined re-election. Air. Copley identified himself with the Illinois National Guard. He was aprivate of Company -B 3rd Regiment, for three years, from 1880; Captain of T in 1893 ; Lieutenant Colonel, and Inspector of Rifle Practice, on the Staffof Brig. General Andrew Welch ; Commanding 3rd Brigade I. X. G. from 1894to 1899. Col. Copley retired from the service upon the resignation of Gen.Welch. Her father, who was of German extraction, was born in Canada, hermother was born in Sweden.
