His voicein singing was so exquisitely soft and melodious as to havebecome noted even where he was personally unknown, andpersons who took no interest in religion would come tochurch in the most rainy weather simply to hear the domi-nie sing. Mr. Sluyters active and successful ministry was closedby his death, July 25, 1848, but the memory of his busyand self-sacrificing life is yet reverently cherished by thechurch, and by those he assisted in their efforts to securean education. In January, 1844, the Rev. Ira Condict Boice com-menced his pastoral labors, which continued fifteen yeare,and which added one hundred and thirteen members to thechurch. He was an energetic man, and did much to pro-mote the temporal affairs of the church, building a newparsonage whose beauty of situation and tastefulness areseldom surpassed.
