Description
English: General-content map of the present-day borough of Brooklyn (Kings County, New York City) and the western part of Queens County (now the borough of Queens in New York City). Shows incorporated cities, towns (townships), roads, rural buildings, and rural householders' names; shows street system in urban areas. Relief shown by hachures. Depths shown by soundings. Hand colored to distinguish administrative areas of cities and towns (townships). "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1860 by J.H. Higginson in the ... Southern District of New York." LC copy imperfect: The 2 original sheets were conjoined to form a single sheet, fold-lined, later halved, mounted on cloth backing, annotated in ink handwriting in lower margin "Aug 10.1860", missing small internal sections along vertical cut line. LC Land ownership maps, 506 Includes numerous advertisements. Available also through the Library of Congress Web site as a raster image.
