Title
Obedience and disobedience
Description
In the center an open Bible with Bible quotes in Latin on a stone marked "Christ". The devil's serpent of the fall and Death as a skeleton are crushed by the stone. The Bible is surrounded by the symbols of the four evangelists. Above it the dove of the Holy Spirit and in the sky the tetragram as a symbol of God the Father, surrounded by cherubim. On the left the male personification of Disobedience (Inobedientia), seen from the back, with a book under his arm. To the right is the male personification of Obedience (Obedientia), his arms crossed in front of the chest, looking up at the tetragram. Two biblical scenes are depicted in the background. On the left, Saint Paul tries to convert the Jews (Acts 18). On the right the calling of four apostles by Christ (Mat. 4). The epitaph of the print is a Bible quote from Mat. 17 in Latin. In the margin a two-line Bible quote from 1 Cor. 1 in Dutch, French and German.
