Description
Deutsch: Ehemaliges Moses-Denkmal in der Bahnhofstraße in Herzogenrath. Die Skulptur wurde von der Familie Schmetz gestiftet und am 9. September 1962 enthüllt. In der Nacht vom 23. auf den 24. Januar 2014 wurde die Bronzefigur von Metalldieben gestohlen. Eine neue Skulptur aus Nivelsteiner Sandstein befindet sich seit 2015 in Arbeit.

Der neue Moses hatte einen Vorläufer: Einen patriarchischen Moses aus Nivelsteiner Sandstein. Diese Figur wurde in der Nacht vom 6. zum 7. Februar 1934 von Anhängern der Nationalsozialisten zerstört. Kurt-Wolf von Borries stellte am 09. September 1962 seinen neuen Moses auf ein Stück des alten Moses und schuf damit ein Gesamtkunstwerk, welches auch eine Mahnung gegen rassistische und antisemitische Verirrungen sein sollte. Dieser Sockel ging bei der Umsetzung der Figur im Jahr 1997 zu Bruch und wurde am 17. August 1997 durch den heutigen Basaltsockel ersetzt. Das Moses-Denkmal ist eine Stiftung des Herzogenrather Nadelfabrikanten Ferdinand Bernhard Schmetz.
