Location: Gold Coast, Queensland
Description: Heavy traffic on the Jubilee Bridge, Gold Coast, 1933. View of cars passing over the Jubilee Bridge. The bridge, opened in 1925, allowed motorists ready access to the open surf at Main Beach and Surfers Paradise.
Weekends, Easter, and Christmas brought increasing numbers of Brisbane-registered cars to the coast, and the first 'traffic jams' were recorded as early as 1926 (Information taken from: R. Longhurst, Gold Coast : our heritage in focus, 1995).
