Copper alloy

Brooch. Cast Headstud Brooch variant, without stud. Tubular wings retain an axis bar for a hinged pin (now lost), there is a spot of iron corrosion on one end of a wing. There is a top loop above the head. Below the head the bow, which is of slightly angular section continues as a concavo-convex feature hollowed out at the back, only recovering solid form at the position of the stub of a catch-plate; the extreme foot is lost. Suggested date: Early Roman, 75-150.

Length: 34.9mm, Width: 17.1mm, Thickness (crest of bow): 5.4mm, Weight: 6.23gms.
