Summary[edit]

Description
English: R.A.F. Squadron's fox mascot, France, during World War I. The fox is sitting in a plane's cockpit.

Regimental, barrack or group mascots were popular amongst soldiers during this period. They gave the group a focus, allowed the expression of human feeling and relieved the monotony of life on duty.
[Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT IN FRANCE. This young fox has attached himself to the R.A.F. and is the mascot of a squadron. He is fond of flying.']
