English: Nederrijn Rhenen from a Ferris Wheel.
This picture is meant to serve as an example of a real haze opposed to the pictures that are in this category that show cloud like fenomena or macroscopic dust. Haze is actually a subtle effect, caused by invisible particles due to the Tyndall effect. The dispersing particles should be below macroscopic visible level, but bigger then the wavelength of the dispersed light. The haze here is visible at the hills in the distance which get a whitish blue color, compared to similar hills that are closer and have a green color. This is caused by the frequency dependency of the Tyndall scattering. In this case there is incident light so the colorshift is to the blue.

Deze foto is toegevoegd als typisch voorbeeld van heiigheid als tegenwicht voor de foto's in deze categorie die in de categorie nevel of rook vallen. Heiigheid is een suptiel fenomeen dat veroorzaakt wordt door deeltjes die met het blote oog niet zichtbaar zijn maar wel groter dan de golflengte van het vestrooide licht. Deze verstrooiing wordt het Tyndall effect genoemd. Ze is hier zichtbaar door de witblauwe waas over de heuvels in de verte. Doordat er sprake vam opvallend licht is, treedt er een verschuiving op naar de blauwe golflengtes. |
