Title |
Harness pendant |
||
Description |
English: A copper-alloy shield shaped harness pendant from the Medieval period, circa AD1100-1400. The enamel survives partially as a red (Gules) lion motif, although one would expect there to be enamel on the area surrounding the shield as well. Two rivets can be seen beneath the suspension mount where the enamel has worn away. The suspension loop is broken on the reverse of the pendant, the break is worn. The reverse of the pendant is undecorated. The pendant is very worn in general, and the metal is of a light greyish-green. There are traces of guilding on the obverse. Parallels for this piece can be seen in the reference below. |
