Title |
Harness pendant |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy, shield shaped medieval heraldic harness pendant with a suspension loop in the middle of the top edge at right angles to the plate. It still shows the remnants of a single blue enamelled lion passant. If the metal was gilded, this gives the heraldic description as Or, a lion passant azure. One family which used this device was the Thompsons of Buckinghamshire (see http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~heraldry/bga.html), but there may have been many other families who also used this or a similar device. Also, the metal may have been silvered, and there are many examples of families that used Argent, a lion passant azure. The pendant has a length of 42.5mm with a width of 25.7mm. It has a thickness of 2.5mm and weighs 8.52g. |
