Title
Harness pendant
Description
English: A cast copper alloy shield-shaped harness pendant. The suspension loop appears to be intact. The base is broken off, and the right edge is damaged. The artefact is in poor condition, but retains some red enamel on the face, in the form of a diagonal bar (bend), upon which are the remains of three devices which may be spread-eagles. The surface is heavily corroded with a blotchy green surface. I. Szymanksi believes this to be the arms of Sir Robert de Haughton (died 1304, aged 39); his arms were ‘argent, a bend gules, three birds displayed’. This artefact dates to the 13th or 14th century.
