Title
Harness pendant
Description
English: A cast copper alloy shield-shaped harness pendant. The suspension loop is broken and the artefact is in poor condition. The surface is, worn, corroded and rough. However, enough enamel remains on the face to interpret the original design. The background was chequered, with one colour being blue; presumably the other colour was gold or silver. Across the middle was a horizontal red bar (a fess gules). I. Szymanksi believes that this may be the arms of the Clifford family, who were important in the north of England. This artefact dates to the 13th or 14th century.
