Title
Harness pendant
Description
English: A cast copper alloy shield-shaped harness pendant. The suspension loop is intact, and the artefact is in fair condition. The surface is corroded with a dark green-brown colour. A significant amount of the original enamel and gilding survive. The ground consists of narrow horizontal stripes of alternating blue and gold (or possibly silver), which extended onto the loop; eight blue stripes are still visible. Superimposed on this are three red wreaths (chaplets). I. Szymanski has identified this as the arms of the Fitzwilliam family of Grimesthorpe in the mid 13th to mid-14th centuries.
