Title
Harness pendant
Description
English: A cast copper alloy shield-shaped harness pendant. The suspension loop is intact, and the artefact is in good condition, apparently with a smooth surface. The loop appears to be intact (the artefact was recorded from a photograph). Nearly all of the enamel survives on the face. This forms a blue ground, within which are the outlines of two sea-perch, rising up and out from the bottom. Above/between are three crosses (2,1) and to the left and to the right are pairs of crosses, along with a final cross at the bottom. The heraldic description is ‘azure semy of crosslets fitchy and two barbells haurient addorsed [colour unknown]’. I. Szymanski has identified these as French arms, of the Counts of Bar. This artefact dates to the 13th or 14th century.
