Harness pendant |

Description |
English: A cast copper alloy shield-shaped harness pendant. The suspension loop is worn through at the top; the artefact is in good condition. The pendant is U-shaped, with an integrally cast design. The surface is smooth on the face and rough on the reverse. Virtually all of the enamel appears to survive. The design consists of parallel lines running diagonally from top left to bottom right. These are striped, alternately red and bare metal, which was presumably once gilded; there are five red stripes. Szymanski states that the alternate stripes are blue, but this does not seem to be the case in the photograph. Around the edge is a border. In the upper left corner is a blue quadrant, with its own bare metal border. Within this quadrant are five bare metal dots, each seemingly a raised dome within an outer ring. I. Szymanski has identified this as a Spanish piece. This artefact dates to the 13th or 14th century. This artefact is very similar to YORYM-066487. |
