Title
Harness pendant
Description
English: A cast copper alloy shield-shaped harness pendant. The suspension loop is intact and the pendant is in good condition, with some light corrosion visible in the photograph. Virtually all of the blue enamel coating survives on the face, forming the ground / outline of a ‘lion rampant’, facing left. The lion has a forked tail. The blue enamel stops short of the edge of the face, forming an even border, and continues beyond this border onto the suspension loop. I. Szymanski has identifies this as the arms of the Stapleton family of Salop/ Leics., the lion originally being gold (‘or’). This artefact dates to the 13th or 14th century.
