Title
Harness pendant
Description
English: A cast copper alloy shield-shaped harness pendant. The suspension loop is missing. The surface is badly corroded , with apparently yellowish corrosion. The top right corner has been lost. No enamel coating survives, but the integrally-cast design is still clear to see. This design is cast in shallow relief, and shows a heraldic eagle, head facing left; across the neck of the eagle is a banner or ribband, which terminates at each side in a scroll wrapped around the upper end of each wing. The tail is stylised, with radiating points at the tip. I. Szymanski believes there to be a small shield on the breast, although this is not apparent in the photograph. It is likely to be of Continental origin, probably dating to the 13th or 14th century.
