Title
Harness pendant
Description
English: A copper-alloy worn incomplete probable harness pendant of medieval date. It is shield shaped measuring 32.4mm in height and 25mm in width. There is an incomplete proturding fragment in the centre of the upper edge, which is presumably the remains of the suspension loop which would have been set at right angles to the plane of the pendant itself. The front face has a probably heraldic device depicted on it, although it is now unclear due to wear it appears that it is is most likely to be a Lion rampant left. The probable Lion has a long tail which curves upwards behind it and the field behind it retains fragments of a blue enamel, the possible heraldic connections of this pendant cannot be traced as the original colour of the Lion itself is unknown. There are patches of active light powdery green corrosion on both the front and back face of this probable pendant. This form of pendant is most common in the 14th century.
