Description
Jerichau visited Turkey twice between 1872 and 1875. This is a view from the Hippodrome, with two columns (obelisks) presumed to originally have been erected by emperor Theodosius. The Brazen Column is also known as the column of Constantine, the 10th-century emperor who restored it. The Egyptian obelisk dates to around 1500BC. To the right is the Blue Mosque and to the left the Hagia Sophia.
