Description Illustration from the article Handelspladsen paa Heimaey blandt Vestmanøerne, by Carl Andersen, in the Danish illustrated newspaper Illustreret Tidende from March 16, 1879.

Source The image is scanned from the Icelandic yearly Blik which was published in Vestmannaeyjar 1936-1980. A print with this image was acquired in Copenhagen by Icelander Sigurgeir Sigurjónsson and given to Þorsteinn Víglundsson, editor of Blik. The image appeared in the magazine 1959, 1969 and 1980. The 1969 edition contains a description of how it was acquired and its origins. The scan was made by unknown for the website Heimaslóð on the history, culture and people of Vestmannaeyjar. The original can be found here.
Author This illustration was made by Carl Emil Baagøe (1829-1902) and was originally published in Illustreret Tidende on March 16, 1879. The author of this illustration died more than 70 years ago, and this image is consequently in the Public Domain.
