English: Halifax City Police on the Grand Parade, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, 10 July, 1914. The Halifax Herald for 11 July 1914 reported that:
"There was a general inspection of the Halifax police force yesterday afternoon on the Parade. The policemen were out in full force with the exception of one or two who are on the sick list. The inspection was by His Worship Mayor Bligh and Controller Harris. Controllers Hoben and Scanlan were also present. Mayor Bligh add rest [sic] the men in a very flattering manner, congratulating them upon the high standard of efficiency which they have attained and assuring them of the protection and cooperation of the Board of Control. Addresses were then heard from Controllers Harris, Scanlan and Hoben in which they offered suggestions for dealing with some of the problems which the police force has to face and pointing out conditions which make it difficult for the law to be properly enforced. Those who have been attending the lectures were given first aid certificates and a large number qualified. Medals were presented those who had successfully completed the gymnasium course at the YMCA...." |
