Summary[edit]

Description
Français : Haiti - L’occupation américaine (1915)
English: A 600 mm gauge Decauville railroad served the eastern third of Tortuga island, carrying freight and passengers. It was lifted in the 1930s. It used Decauville steam engines and rolling stock. The cocoa plantation of the Simmonds brothers also used a 600 mm gauge Decauville railroad in the Dame-Marie area in the south, which also transported passengers and freight in the vicinity. In the 1950s Decauville lines of various lengths were used on agricultural plantations all over Haiti with 600 mm gauge or even less. (Ref: "Haiti’s Railroads" by Georges Michel, Ph.D. also in French)
