English: with beginning of a year ,people of Iran and some other middle eastern countries, celebrate Norooz which is an Iranian ceremony in the first day of Farvardin coincide with march 20 according to their ancient customs.in this ceremony ,people put seven specific items, terminologically starting with letter "s" in their houses from the first day of Farvardin till Farvardin 13s.
The main Seven-S / Haft-Sin , are : Sabzeh : Sprouting /Grass (the symbol of rebirth and growth) Samanu : Sumalak (the symbol of power and strength) Senjed : Oleaster (the symbol of love) Somaq : Sumac (the symbol of sunrise) Serkeh : Vinegar (the symbol of patience) Seeb : Apple (the symbol of beauty) Seer : Garlic (the symbol of health and medicine) Other Symbols that start with letter "S" somtimes are: Sonbol : Hyacinth (the symbol of spring's arrival) Sekkeh : Coin (the symbol of matter, material world, wealth and prosperity) Saat : Clock (the symbol of time)فارسی: هر ساله ، با شروع سال جدید در روز اول فروردین ماه که مصادف با 20 مارس است ، مردم ایران و بعضی از کشورهای خاورمیانه ، بنابر رسوم باستانی خود که برگرفته از آیین پارسی است ، همزمان با جشن گرفتن نوروز ، هفت چیز نمادین که با حرف "س" شروع می شوند را ، تا انتهای نوروز یا همان 13 فروردین که برابر با 2 مارس است ، در داخل خانه ی خود میگذارند .
هفت سین اصلی عبارتند از : سبزه : نماد نوزایی و رویش سمنو : نماد برکت و فراوانی سنجد : نماد عشق و محبت سماق : نماد طلوع و شادی سرکه : نماد صبر و شکیبایی سیب : نماد زیبایی و تندرستی سیر : نماد دوری از شر و پلیدی دیگر نماد هایی که با حرف "س" شروع می شوند ، عبارتند از : سنبل : نشان دهنده ی شکر و قدردانی و نماد فرزندآوری سکه : نماد دارندگی و ثروت ساعت : نماد زمان و عمر
