Description
Français : Le village de Matmata, dans le gouvernorat de Gabes dans le sud de la Tunisie tient son nom et sa création d'une tribu berbère. Le village fut fréquemment, de par ses habitations troglodytes, un lieu de résistance ou de cachettes, notamment pendant la 2e Guerre Mondiale. Les habitations en elles-mêmes, créées pour résister au climat, sont creusées dans les flancs de la montagne autour d’un grand puits circulaire à ciel ouvert pour capter la lumière, et gardent une température relativement régulière tout au long de l’année.
