DescriptionHMS Terrible QE2 73.jpg | H.M.S. TERRIBLE. This picture represents her Majesty's ship Terrible, which is one of the two largest and most formidable cruisers in the Royal Navy, and is in some respects without a rival among the worships of the world. The Terrible has engines of 35,000 horse-power, supplied with steam from forty-eight Belleville tubulous boilers. Her maximum speed is 23 knots; she can carry 2600 tons of coal, and under easy steam will traverse 25000 miles without re-coaling. She carries two 9.2 breechloading guns. twelve 6-inch 100-pounder quick firing guns, sixteen 12-pounders, and a number of small guns. The larger guns are well protected. This gigantic vessel is 500 feet long, with a beam of 71 feet. She has a crew of over 800 officers and men. She was built on the Clyde, and was completed in 1896. | |||
