Summary[edit]

Description
English: Pictured is a female Lt on the bridge of HMS Sutherland during a ‘RAS’ with USNS Cesar Chavez (T-AKE-14), a Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship.

Replenishment at sea (RAS) is a method of transferring fuel, munitions, and stores from one ship to another while under way. First developed in the early 20th century it allows ships to remain at sea almost indefinitely.
