Description
Deutsch: Werner wurde am 16. April 1896 als Sohn des im Dezember 1912 an einer sich im Dienst zugezogenen Blutvergiftung verstorbenen Oberstabsarztes geboren. Er besuchte erst die Vorschule dann das Katharineum. Nach bestandenem Notabiturium und zog als Kriegsfreiwilliger nach kurzer Ausbildung bei einem Artillerie-Regiment ins Feld. Er kämpfte südlich von Noyon mit. Im Januar 1915 trat er als Fahnenjunker bei einem Marine-Infanterie-Regiment ein. Im Sommer 1915 erhielt er das WK II (schwere Yperngefechte). Er wurde bei der Somme und in Flandern schwer verwundet. Im Herbst 1916 verwundet im Johanniterkrankenhaus zu Bonn liegend, verlieh ihm seine Heimatstadt das Hanseatenkreuz. Ala Adjutant des I. Bataillons erstürmte er an der Seite seines Regimentskommandeurs Albert. Beim Vorwärtssturm fiel er.
