Description
English: In this painting, artist Gyrth Russell depicts a typical estaminet in Cambligneuil, France, housed in a large farm building. Many soldiers visited civilian-run estaminets behind the battle lines in France and Belgium where they could spend their pay on fried eggs, chips, watery beer, and ‘vin blanc’ – white wine.
