Description

Gymnopus subsulphureus (Peck) Murrill

Image location: Browns Camp, Tillamook State Forest, Tillamook Co., Oregon, USA

Growing in a mixed forest, on and around a rotting log. The group in the first picture was growing from beneath a thick layer of debris; the stems were shorter in fully exposed mushrooms.

Caps yellow-brown to brown, everything else yellow. Stem becomes hollow, doesn’t break when bent. Thick, white rhyzomorphs. Flesh watery. Odor none. Taste indistinct, fungal.

Spores 5-6 × 3-3.5.

No violet reaction with KOH; eliminates Callistosporium.
