| Description | Visitors to the island are housed in two buildings that used to be the Fort Michie officer's quarters. These are all divided up into small rooms with a bed or two. By "bed" I mean an exceedingly musty mattress that mostly serves as a great place to spread out your sleeping bag. After all, you're more or less sleeping in an abandoned building, and Helen is on record as saying that if any volunteers are coming out to the island to work, she wants them on terns, not on interior design. Too, without a proper dock, there'd be no getting furnishings or construction materials onto the island even if you wanted to. But it really doesn't matter a lot: Helen works you pretty hard while you're out there and you're just happy to have a roof over your head by the time bedtime rolls around. After the first day of work, you don't even much mind that the terns never quiet down completely, even at night! |
