[edit]
Description
English: Title: Group of refugee women mending socks for the American soldiers in an old monastery building adjacent to the Great Cathedral in Toure. This is a part of the great salvage work that is making socks, sweaters (and other garments that have been worn and torn) (as good as new at a very small expense and at the same time the refugees are being made self-supporting. In this one group one fourth (1/4) of a million socks and 150,000 under garments have been mended in two months and nearly 70,000 francs have earned by them. These women average 5 to 6 francs a day (about a dollar)
