Rand: YOUR NOBLEST SHIPPE 1511 Kommentar: Äußerer Ring aus Nickel-Messing, innerer Teil aus Kupfer-Nickel. - Anläßlich des 500. Jahrestages des Stapellaufs der Karacke 'Mary Rose'. Die Darstellung der Münzrückseite ist nach einem illustrierten Flottenverzeichnis aus der Regierungszeit Heinrich VIII., der Anthony Roll, gestaltet. Das berühmte Schiff Heinrich (Henry) VIII. sank am 19. Juli 1545 im Solent vor Portsmouth als es mit der englischen Flotte gegen die Franzosen ausfuhr. 1967 wurde das Wrack wiederentdeckt und 1982 gehoben. Die Mary Rose kann heute am Portsmouth Historic Dockyard besichtigt werden (ein neues Gebäude, das Mary Rose Museum, wird im Herbst 2012 eröffnet). Siehe http://www.maryrose.org. Zusammen mit der schwedischen Wasa und der niederländischen Batavia gehört sie zu den bekanntesten geborgenen Schiffen des 16. und 17. Jhs. Die Randaufschrift 'Your Noblest Shippe' geht auf einen Brief des Lord Admirals Sir Edward Howard an den König zurück, den dieser an Bord der Mary Rose am 22. März 1513 schrieb. Literatur: G. und G.
