Summary
[edit]DescriptionGreater Iraq Ba'athist.png |
English: A Greater Iraq as promoted by the Ba'athist regime in Iraq. According to an interview in a study supported by the Jewish-Arab Institute, a Jewish Iraqi stated in an interview that the Iraqi government sought to create a Greater Iraq that would include the territories of Kuwait, Jordan, Syria, and Israel within it. (New outlook, Volume 33. Israel Peace Research Society, Makhon le-ḥeḳer ha-shalom (Givʻat Ḥavivah, Israel), Jewish-Arab Institute (Givat Haviva, Israel), 1990. Pp. 40). Saddam Hussein himself noted as an achievement that his idols, the Iraqi leaders Nebuchadnezzar II and Saladin had conquered Jerusalem, saying: "Of all the Iraqi empire-builders—ancient, medieval, or modern—only Nebuchadnezzar and Saladin ever captured Jerusalem".(Michael L. Galaty, Charles Watkinson. Archaeology under dictatorship. New York, New York, USA: Kluwer Academic/Plenum Publishers, 2004. Pp. 204) Furthermore it is known that Ba'athist Iraq held territorial claims on Khuzestan in Iran. (Strategic studies
, Volumes 16-17. Islāmābād, Pakistan: Institute of Strategic Studies. Pp. 71) |
