Summary
[edit]DescriptionGraticcio.jpg |
English: The House of Opus Craticium, Herculaneum, Italy. A reconstruction of an ancient Roman building technique now called half-timbering. Technically Opus Craticium is wattle and daub wall infill but this stone infill is often called by the same name. Their is not a direct connection between this Roman building technique and half-timbering which came into use in Europe by the 12th century. Opus Craticium was mostly used for interior partition walls, this is the only surviving example where this technique was used for the whole house. |
