Variegated Antpitta (Grallaria varia) Parque Estadual da Cantareira - São Paulo-SP

" É praticamente desconhecida do público em geral e, por isso mesmo, foi escolhida como símbolo do laboratório de Ornitologia da Universidade Federal de Viçosa %u2013 como um alerta sobre os milhares de espécies que estão sendo perdidas no mundo sem que as pessoas se dêem conta. Juntamente com pelo menos outras 27 espécies de aves, o tavacuçu foi extinto na região de Viçosa (clique aqui e faça o download da publicação) e em grande parte do estado de Minas Gerais. Infelizmente, a maioria das pessoas não faz a mínima idéia desse estado de deterioração da nossa avifauna. O tovacuçu é uma espécie sensível à destruição e fragmentação florestal, um problema mundial para a conservação da biodiversidade. Sua voz marcante e a dificuldade em ser vista torna nossas florestas ainda mais atraentes e espetaculares "
