Summary[edit]
DescriptionGorsedd Stones, Carmarthen Park - geograph.org.uk - 3014172.jpg |
English: Gorsedd Stones, Carmarthen Park.
Gorsedd Stones are groups of standing stones constructed for the National Eisteddfod of Wales. They form an essential part of the druidic Gorsedd ceremonies at the Eisteddfod. Each stone structure is arranged in a circle, usually consisting of twelve stone pillars. At the centre of the circle is a large, flat-topped stone, the Logan Stone, which is used as a platform. Gorsedd stones can be found throughout Wales, marking a location where a National Eisteddfod was held. This one, in Carmarthen's public park, was erected in 1973 for the 1974 Eisteddfod in the town. Behind the stones on the right is the park's Grade II listed bandstand. |
