A (Wheeler) rubber tip and shield,easily attached to the syringe, fits snugly into themeatus, and the rapidity of the flow, amount of Local Treatment : Acute Urethritis. 57 pressure applied, and quantity of fluid injected, areabsolutely under the control of the operators hand.With the left hand holding the glans, and the righthand introducing the fluid into the bladder, everycontraction and relaxation of the cut-off muscle isinstantly appreciated, and the pressure of the handon the piston is increased or relaxed as the con-ditions demand. I believe that this method of irri-gation is so far superior in every way to that ofJanet, as to justify its use wherever bladder irriga-tion is indicated.

This basin is madeof light sheet metal, and is so shaped as to reston the thighs of the patient (Fig. 8). Eecentlya collapsible model has been introduced (Fig. 10)which is made of sheet rubber and which can befolded up and carried in the surgeons bag. The catheter should never be used in acuteurethritis as the method of choice. The introduc-tion of a foreign body into the highly inflamed andtender urethra, is not only unsurgical, but absolutelyunnecessary. It can be avoided, and should there-fore be discarded.
