Description
English: Godavari Kund, a famous holy place of Godavari Municipality Ward No. 3 of Lalitpur District, is also known as Tirtha Sthal. This place is located at the foothills of Phulchoki Hills about 11 km east of Lagankhel in Patan. This place is full of natural beauty and is very beautiful.

Naudhara is located in the south west of this tank. In the north there is the Bhashmasura hill, which is said to have been burnt to ashes by the grace of Lord Mahadev, who was given the boon to incinerate everyone. There is also a tradition of bathing in the Godavari tank and taking water from there to the temple of Lord Bishnu Narayan. Natural water has flowed into this tank from the tendons of the eastern corner of this Godavari tank. The holy water of this tank flows from five stone streams outside and falls into the second tank. Pilgrims who come to this holy tank bathe in these 5 stone streams. Its main tank is 15 feet square and the depth of this tank is 10 feet. Siddheshwar Mahadev, also known as Godavari Mahadev, is in the cave on the south, west side of this tank. Also there is an idol of Lord Vishnu, Vishnu Paduka. On the outer wall there are rows of Lord Ganesha, Bhagwati, Basaha, Devi, Bhairav and Shabdeshwar Mahadev, Kamdhenu, Saraswati and nearby there are idols of Dattatreya. There are also idols of various deities including Nagaraja Vasuki, Srisheshwar Mahadev, Ganesha. Outside the kunda, there are temples of Pashupati and Jaleshwar Mahadev on the upper part, i.e. on the north and south sides. There are also Saptashirka idols on the south side. A dome-shaped idol of Saraswati is also on the west side. There is also an underground Shivling near it. Gaurikund is also located in the forest on the south side of Ugodavari Kund. Devotees march and worship in this tank. There are idols of Hanuman and Ganesha. Below the road there are also five stone Shivling temples. In front of Godavari Kund is Dhuni Ghar. Which is named Gautami Kuti. In this cottage there is an Akhand Dhuni. Instead of using firewood, dung bales are used in this dhuni. The place where this Dhuni is located is also said to be the place where Siddhababa Bahadur Puri did penance. According to popular belief, Gautam Srishi is believed to have appeared as Bahadur Puri. About one km south-west from the tank is Naudhara, which is famous for having nine streams flowing through it. Every year on the day of Baisakh Punirma, devotees bathe and a fair is held here. There is also a temple of Naudhara Mai near it. As mentioned in Skanda Purana regarding Godavari Kund or Tirtha, when Mahashir Gautama prayed to Lord Krishna for the sin of cow slaughter, Lord Krishna sent the Ganges for the people of Golak. It is known on earth as Godavari in Ganga. Every 12 years a huge fair is held in this Godavari. At that time, saints, sages and monks come and bathe here. According to the commandment that all your sins will be destroyed by it, Gautama Shrishi got rid of his curse by bathing in the same Godavari. For this reason, it is believed that taking a bath in this tank will destroy all sins like cow slaughter and Brahmin killing. According to Skandapurana, it is also said that if one bathes in Godavari Mahatirtha on the occasion of the sunset of the lion, then if one donates a cow, one will get the same fruit. According to the Barah Purana, the rivers Bhimarathi, Krishnadevi, Godavari and Tungabhadra originate from Sahay mountain. Regarding the origin of this kunda, according to the Varaha Purana, Gautama Srishi received the gift of flowers, fruits and riches from the pleased Vishnu when he performed severe austerities in Dandakakhya for the darshan of Vishnu. At that time, when there was no rain for 12 years, many saints came to him for food, fruits, and ditches. Later, when it was rained and the situation was as it was, Marich said that he should not leave without asking Gautam for a single word, saying that Khandaiima is his servant and on the contrary, he created an elusive cow and made the cow dead. On his arrival, it was alleged that he was the one who killed the cow. After that, Gautama went to the Himalayas and performed austerities on Lord Shiva for atonement. Shiva was pleased with his penance and gave a portion of his Jata to the Jata-wide Godavari Ganga. And most of the dead cows came back to life. From that, Gautama Srishi's sin of cow slaughter was atoned. Then Gautama brought that holy Godavari to that area and created a lake or pool there. Then he cursed the hypocrites to be separated from the tribes and unable to act according to the Vedas in front of the Saptashrishis. At the persuasion of Saptashrishira, the cursing was done something. And there is also a statement from the Saptashrishis who were present to Gautama that "the river you have brought will be famous by the name of Godavari and bathing in this river will lead to ancestors".

This Godavari flows through India's Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh. This was the hut of Sri Ramachandra, a forest dweller, in Panchavati on the side of the Godavari river. According to the greatness of the Godavari, the Northern Ganga or Bhagirathi comes to the south of India and is famous by the name of the Godavari. The ascetic Bhagiratha Raja is credited with bringing Ganga Mata down to earth, while the credit for the origin of Godavari goes to Srishipravara Gautama. Lord Ashutosh Shivshank is the origin of Godavari river as a result of severe penance of this sage.
