Description
  • Italiano: Wilhelm von Gloeden (1856-1931), Paesaggio a Taormina a Porta Catania. I modelli Pietro e Carmelo posano in costume siciliano. Entro l'anno 1900. Numero di catalogo: 0246. Cm 16,5x22,4. Questa stampa è timbrata e datata 1 agosto 1900, e misura cm 18x24. Il professor Mario Bolognari l'ha identificata così: "Si tratta di via Toselli, dove attualmente c'è l'hotel Excelsior. Probabilmente a quel tempo portava la vecchia denominazione di via delle Pietre (forse per via del muro con merli fatto con pietre). Al posto di quelle case oggi c'è l'ospedale. Si vede bene anche la porta d'ingresso distrutta nel 1943". L'hotel Excelsior fu costruito nel 1904. Un album già di Gloeden, oggi in collezione privata, identifica questa immagine col titolo: "<Castel>Mola dalla Porta Catania".
