Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: The Giant's Causeway was formed some 50 to 60 million years (Paleocene epoch) ago by a stream of molten lava that solidified. The "stream" can be seen "flowing" northwards into the sea. The original "river banks" have long since been eroded away. However, according to legend, the Scotish giant Benandonner built the causeway so that he could battle with the Irish giant Fionn mac Cumhaill. On being fooled into thinking that mac Cumhaill was much bigger than him, he fled back to Scotland, ripping up the causeway as he went. This image shows all that is left.
