Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Ghost Bike, Devils Dyke Road A memorial to a cyclist who was killed near this spot. Ghost bikes are usually old bicycles painted entirely in white and left as both a memorial to the cyclist and a reminder to the motorist about the need to share roads with all types of transport. This type of monument is more prevalent in America where it originated. The memorial is at the junction of Saddlescombe Road and Devils Dyke Road, the former a fast C road with a 60 mph limit over the Downs the latter a smaller lane leading up onto the Dyke. The ride from Brighton up to the Dyke is a popular one with cyclists of all abilities and beyond the A27 an off road cycle path is provided but has to cross the busier Saddlescombe Road at this point to continue on the way up to the Dyke.
