Summary[edit]

Description
Čeština: Plukovnice ve výslužbě Gertruda Engelová (též Englová, rozená Frankensteinová, * 16. května 1910, Český Krumlov – 10. října 2003 Praha) byla česká lékařka židovského původu, členka KSČ a feministka, příslušnice zdravotnického personálu v rámci československých jednotek v Sovětském svazu. Dne 11.
English: Retired Colonel Gertruda Engelová (also Englová, née Frankensteinová, * 16 May 1910, Český Krumlov - 10 October 2003 Prague) was a Czech doctor of Jewish origin, a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and a feminist, a member of the medical staff of the Czechoslovak troops in the Soviet Union. On February 11, 1942, she became the first woman ever in the 1st Czechoslovak Independent Brigade in the USSR, one of several Czechoslovak women within the units in the USSR to achieve officer rank during their deployment in World War II. She then served briefly in the Czechoslovak People's Army as a woman with one of the highest military ranks. She thus became the first woman ever to be accepted into the ranks of the Czechoslovak army.
