Summary[edit]

Franz Josef Ritter von Gerstner. Stich von J.Passini aus dem Jahr 1833. Gerstner senior war mit der Planung einer Verkehrsverbindung vom Donautal bis Budweis beauftragt. Er lehnte den Bau eines Kanals aus Kostengründen ab, plädierte dann für eine kombinierte Lösung entschied sich aber schließlich für eine reine Bahnlösung. Aufgrund der napoleonischen Kriege konnte er das Projekt nicht mehr persönlich umsetzen, dies blieb seinem Sohn bzw. dessen Nachfolger vorbehalten.
