an institution with sucha history is an inspiration to all who become in any way a partof the University. Then, the future of the University is one ofgreat promise. Its campus, which had been reduced to 40 acres,has recently been expanded to nearly one thousand acres. Muchof this is to furnish experimental departments for a great collegeof agriculture which now has a new building of magnificent pro-portions and a large faculty. A chemistry building (Terrell Hall),a biological building (LeConte Hall), and a library building arecomparatively new additions on the campus. A special buildingfor the School of Education is in prospect, and this will becomethe headquarters of the Summer School. Expansion for greaterservice is the order of the day. Geographically and industrially the State of Georgia occupiesa commanding position, the Keystone State of the South. In an-other quarter of a century the University of Georgia promises tobecome one of the greatest educational factors of the world. 3

UNIVERSITY CHAPEL. THE CITY OF ATHENS The founders of the University deliberated for several yearsupon the proper location. Its present site was finally agreed uponafter a survey of the State. It lies on the rolling hills of North-east Georgia along an upper portion of the Oconee river, is highand healthful, the elevation being nearly eight hundred feet abovesea level, free from malarial conditions, the water pure, and theclimate excellent in every way. The city of Athens has grown uparound the University as its central factor. It has become aprosperous city of nearly 20,000 inhabitants, one of the bestcotton markets in Georgia, and a busy trade center generally.The State College of Agriculture, the State Normal School, andLucy Cobb Institute are located here, all contributing to makingthis the genuine Athens of the South.
