Gene with introns and exons

Summary[edit]

Description
English: This drawing of a typical gene shows that it is preceded by a promoter and that the gene itself consists of exons and introns. This entire gene is transcribed into a pre-RNA that is spliced by cutting away the introns. The exons thus form the actual codifying DNA. The introns, which make up a large part of the coding genes, are considered junk DNA.
