Summary
[edit]DescriptionGemmy kyanite (11167358046).jpg |
Site locality c/o specimen label is Pizzo Forno, Ticino, Switzerland. I would appreciate a site-knowledgable mineral collector and/or alpine geologist stopping in and saying more. I have never-ever seen _anything_ that approaches the quality of this plate of gemmy kyanite. Its superb crystals are up to 6 inches long. Kyanite is a silicate with formula of Al2SiO5. This metamorphic mineral typically forms small, acicular (needle-like) dark-coloured rough crystals or masses. All gemmy kyanite I've viewed were blue and translucent, rarely transparent with crystals less than perfect. Specimen's geotagged location is Redpath Museum, McGill University, Montreal, Canada. As-is in the case. |
