| Description | Getting to Shemakha had taken us nearly three hours, but we finished looking at the two sites here in a under an hour. We are now headed to the piece de resistance on this trip- Sheki. I was aghast when I heard that it was nearly three and a half to four hours away by car! Sheki was called Nukha, Nuxa and also Nucha and Noukha till about 1968 after which it began to take on the names Shäki, Sheki and Shaki. While notes about Sheki appear in dribs and drabs as we go along, here we have made a pit stop for tea in a delightfully wooded park on the way. I liked this gazebo set in a pool in the midst of the park. (Shemakha (Shamakhi), Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017) |
