Summary[edit]

Description

English: The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II has an entrance from Piazza Duomo, similar to a triumphal arch.

The original project envisaged that the arch was crowned with a sculpture depicting a quadriga, and faced on the other side of the square by an identical arch that was never built. At the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan the Galleria Umberto I in Naples was inspired, while the Canadian architect Eberhard Zeidler honored the work by inserting a gallery on the Milanese style in the more contemporary Toronto Eaton Center.

In confirmation of how the Gallery has become the city's secular symbol, on the 2016 UEFA Champions League final, the octagonal dome was depicted on the prize-giving program; but above all for the Milanese the Gallery is simply their beloved "living room".
